Pivoting Arms with Ratcheting Hooks

Thule T2 Pro XTR ratcheting wheel hooks

The T2 Pro XTR has ratcheting hooks that grab your bikes firmly by the front wheel, so it won't scratch or scuff the paint. To load a bike, simply place your front wheel in the cradle, rotate the arm up and over the wheel, and press down firmly on the ratcheting hook. To unload your bike, press the gray button on the upright arm to release the ratcheting hook, and slide the hook up.

Sliding Rear Wheel Cradles

Thule T2 Pro XTR sliding wheel trays

The wheel trays have cradles with ratcheting straps to secure your rear wheel to the rack. The cradles slide along the tray to accommodate bikes with a variety of wheelbases. To secure your wheel, run the strap over the rim and back down through the strap buckle and pull tight. To remove your bike, press the quick-release button on the buckle and undo the strap.

Front-Mounted Handle for Easy Tilting and Folding

Thule T2 Pro XTR folding and tiliting designThule T2 Pro XTR cable locks

The rack tilts down with your bikes loaded. So, whether you're at the trail or the grocery store, you don't have to remove your bikes to access your cargo area. It also folds up when not in use. This leaves a smaller footprint, so you can keep the rack on your vehicle to park in your garage. And if you want to remove it, it doesn't take up as much space to store it.

Thule T2 Pro XTR folding and tiliting design

To make tilting and folding easier, the T2 Pro XTR's release lever is mounted on the front of the rack. This means you won't have to reach through or around your bikes with one hand to reach the lever, while supporting the rack's weight with the other, when lowering the rack. Instead, you'll be able to hold the rack with both hands the entire time.

Tool-Free Installation with Anti-Rattle Device

Thule T2 Pro XTR cable locksThule T2 Pro XTR cable locks

The rack quickly installs in your hitch receiver, without the need for tools. Just slide the shank into your hitch and turn the knob until snug. Turning the knob deploys an anti-rattle wedge in the shank to help take play out of the hitch connection. It also sets the integrated SnugTite hitch pin into place, securing the rack to your receiver.

Thule T2 Pro XTR ratcheting wheel hooks

The T2 Pro XTR has built-in wheels that let you easily roll the rack so you don't have to lift it and carry it to your vehicle.

Complete Security

Thule Pro XTR loaded on vehicle

The T2 Pro XTR includes One-Key System locks to secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle. Integrated cable locks thread around your bikes' frames and insert into the lock that slides along the cable. The cables store inside the arms when not in use.

Thule T2 Pro XTR loaded on vehicle

The lock on the hand knob secures the rack to your vehicle. Once locked, the hand knob will spin freely so a would-be thief can't operate it. The locks are keyed alike, so you only need to use 1 key. Additional One-Key System locks (sold separately) let you make all your Thule products keyed alike.

by:

nice bike rack, great service!

by:

Sturdy. Easy to put together. Second Thule rack and I trust it will secure my bikes.

by:

Had this for a year now and it is the best rack I've ever owned! Love the tool-free ability to install it on the truck without needing wrenches. Tool-free and anti-rattle, love it!

by:

Good hitch...no issues after year of use on a 2015 Honda Accord sport. The hitch bottom outs a lot due to the low clearance but this isn't a fault of the hitch. The Honda Accord does not have a lot of ground clearance.

by:

Vast improvement over the old Thule rack. The instructions could have been a little clearer for installing the locks. Better and clearer pictures needed. I’m happy to see lock tight is on the screws. I love the tilt and the built in Wheels that allow me to move the rack without picking it up and carrying it.

by:

Excellent rack for the entire family. Changing from 2-bikes to 4-bikes requires some unbolting. Not quite a quick modular changeover but definitely not permanent either.

by:

Very easy to assemble. Looks great! Waiting to take it out for a ride once bike is in.

by:

one problem that i wasn't aware of when i ordered...i will need to get the trim around my hitch receiver cut out wider on my 2024 Subaru Outback for me to be able to use this on my car...the special pin on the side needs to open out wide and my hitch receiver is in line with the bottom trim of my back bumper without room to open the pin out--on our truck the hitch sits below the bumper.

  • Locking Hitch Pin Recommendation for a Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack
I believe you're looking for a more secure hitch pin solution, in which I have just what you need! Check out the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitch - Flush # e98882 This is a locking hitch pin that will lock through your hitch receiver to secure your Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 2" Hitches # TH83JV. If you have thicker hitch walls on your hitch, then you'd want to use the etrailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" and 2-1/2" Hitches # e98881, which is an 1" longer...

  • What Bike ramp Can I Use for the Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV?
I have an answer for you. Unfortunately, we currently don't carry any bike ramps that are designed for your Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV. The only thing that would come close would be to purchase something like the Race Ramps Trailer Loading Assist Ramps - 8" Lift - 74" Long - Qty 2 # RR-TR-8XL to use with your current rack. With that being said, if you are open to purchasing another rack, we do have a great rack that has a built-in ramp. For this route, I recommend the Yakima OnRamp # Y36FR....

  • Why Won't My Locking Knob on My Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV Not Tighten?
The first thing you need to do is to make sure that the lock on your Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV is unlocked first. The most common problem is trying to tighten the knob while it is locked. In order to solve this issue, you need to first unlock the lock, tighten the knob, then lock the mechanism. Please feel free to respond to this answer if that does not solve your issue.

  • How to Secure the Thule T2 Pro XT in Your Receiver So It Doesnt Wobble.
You'll just need to unlock the knob on the Thule T2 Pro XT # TH83JV and then continue tightening it down until it is snug, wobbling it along the way to make sure that it is secure in the hitch receiver. If you fast forward through the attached video until about the 2:40 mark, this explains in detail how to install this rack on your hitch and how to secure the anti-wobble knob to make sure that there isn't any more of the wobbling that you're experiencing. • What is the Difference Between the Thule T2 Pro and Thule T2 Pro XT Version
The biggest change between the Thule T2 Pro and Pro XT # TH83JV is the distance between the bikes. Originally the T2 Pro was designed to work with Fat bikes right out of the box. The only issue was people had a hard time getting 2 Fat bikes to fit because of the wider frames to go around the large tires. So the new version corrects that issue by spacing the bike trays out so they are now 12-1/2 inches apart on center. Now there is more space for Fat bikes and it makes loading 2 regular...

  • Why Won't My Key Turn My Lock On My Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack?
This is actually a fairly common issue as confirmed by Thule. With regards to your Thule T2 Pro XTR Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # TH83JV, they recommend running the key in and out a few times, while wiggling it around a bit. Often times there is some extra metal on the keys that just needs to be worn off. If that still does not work, let me know what key you have and I'd be happy to find a replacement for you.

  • Bike Rack that Will Let Tailgate Swing Open on 2017 Jeep Wrangler
Using the Thule T2 Pro XTR for 4 bikes, # TH69TX or # TH83JV for 2 bikes are a great way to allow you to open the rear tailgate on your 2017 Jeep Wrangler while still being able to keep the bike rack in place and either one of those racks is going to look fantastic on the back of the Jeep. You can't go wrong with either one!

  • How Do I Fix the Handle Release on My Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV?
I reached out to my contact at Thule, and he walked me through the steps to reconnect the mechanism on your Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV. To get the mechanism re-aligned to move the rack to various positions, remove the side screws on the handle then loosen the center one (which will not come out completely). Remove the handle to be sure that the center piece lines up on the backbone. I went ahead and attached a photo to this answer to let you know how the pieces should be aligned.

  • What is Weight Capacity of Thule T2 Pro With and Without Extension
The Thule T2 Pro part # TH83JV that you referenced has a 60 lb per bike capacity when used as a two bike rack but when using the add-on part # TH9036XT the overall bike rack is then limited to 160 lbs. This would mean for three bikes you'd be limited to 53 lbs per bike.

  • Do Arms on Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 Bike Platform Rack Lock Into Place when Not In Use
The arms on the Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV don't have a lock per se but they also won't move when they are down. It requires enough force to move the arms that just normal driving around cannot move the arms. I have never heard of an issue with this bike rack where the arms have moved out of position.

  • Compatibility Of Platform Bike Rack With Jeep Wrangler Spare Tire
The Thule T2 Pro XTR 2 Bike Platform Rack # TH83JV will need an extension to clear your rear spare. From the center of the hitch pin hole this rack is 7 inches to the closest part of the rack when in position to carry bikes and when folded is 5 inches to closest part. This is an excellent bike rack, so I recommend using the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 14" Long # C45795. This will reduce your trailer hitch tongue weight capacity by 50% but that won't be an issue with...

  • Recommended Light Weight Bike Rack on a Jeep Liberty with Rear Spare Tire
The best option for your Jeep Liberty is a swinging hitch rack. The RockyMounts BackStage # RKY10002 swings completely away from the vehicle to allow access to the rear cargo area. The BackStage also has a maximum capacity of 60 pounds per bike which is a lot higher than most swinging racks which usually cap out at 40 pounds. The issue with the BackStage is it's heavy at about 75 pounds. But it is the best option to carry the bikes otherwise.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Subaru Outback for Thule T2 Bike Rack
The best option for a 2 inch hitch for your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon is the Draw Tite part # 75673 which is a confirmed fit and doesn't require a stabilizer strap like the Curt hitch does when carrying a bike rack. This will work great with the Thule T2 Pro part # TH83JV as well without requiring an extension. We had the chance to test fit this rack on a 2017 Outback with this hitch installed and we found it fit well. See install video and picture attached for more info.

  • Is There an Adapter for Thule T2 XTR Bike Rack to Fit 2 inch Hitch Size
Hey Mark, so the Thule T2 bike racks like your XTR do not have a way to easily adapt between the two hitch sizes like you are wanting. Only solution would be a new shank for your rack like the part # TH37MY to allow it to fit the 2 inch size directly without an adapter. Do you still need to use the rack with the smaller hitch size?

I do have an option for you but the Yakima BackSwing Swing Away Hitch Extender part # y02483 is only recommended for use with a bike rack that has a one piece 2" shank. Therefore, it would not be recommended to use the Thule EasyFold XT 2 E-Bike Platform Rack part # TH903202 as it has a 1-1/4" to 2" shank adapter though it would physically fit.
